'Profits Lost' by Milton Keynes

In the face of George Osbourne’s statement today let us remember Milton Keynes the famous poet economist whose influence is still felt in our more lyrical fiscal macroeconomic thoughts. His great work, ‘Profits Lost’, is still recited every morning in major investment banks.

Of mans first disinvestment, and the fruit

Of that forbidden deal, whose mortal profit
Brought death into the World, and all our woe,
With loss of Euro, till one greater Man
Restore us, and regain the blissful treat
That those with wealth shall be protected,
And those without to Debtor’s Inferno bound
